Outlook 2010 Mail Settings

This page explains how to set up your Outlook mail software to check mail with the Fyles Web Design email service.

  1. Start Outlook 2010
  2. Click the File tab. Under Account Information, click ‘Add Account’.
  1. Click ‘Manually configure server settings’
  2. Click ‘Next’
  1. Click ‘Internet Email’
  2. Click ‘Next’
  1. Complete the User Information fields as shown:
    • Your Name: this is displayed to people you send mail to
    • E-mail address
  2. Server Information as follows:
    • Account type: IMAP
    • Incoming mail server: mail.fyles.co.nz
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.fyles.co.nz
  3. Logon information
    • User name: must be your full email address
    • Password: as provided by Fyles Web Design
    • Remember password: yes, check this box unless you want to type a password each time you check your mail
  4. Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA): absolutely must be checked
  5. Click ‘More Settings...’ to proceed
  1. In the ‘More Settings’ dialogue box, click the ‘Outgoing Server’ tab
  2. Check the ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’ box

This is the final screen...

  1. Click the ‘Advanced’ tab
  2. Choose TLS from both drop-down menus
  3. Make sure Incoming server (IMAP) port number is 143
  4. Make sure Outgoing server (SMTP) port number is 587
The previous two steps are the ones that some people miss - this is because when you choose TLS from the dropdown menus Outlook 2010 inserts the wrong TLS port numbers into the two fields.
  5. Click OK - the dialogue box disappears.
  6. Back in the large setup window, click ‘Next’. You will see progress bars and a test message will be sent. The email account will now be ready to use.
